the drama of today

"The best of times, the worst of times." A cliche' yes, but one that is rooted in insight. For what a strange mixture of doom and hope so many of us now feel: our just-budding global civilization seems to be teetering on the edge of collapse, or at least primed for a major set-back, and yet America is on the verge of electing someone who may prove to be the most transformational public figure in generations. How is it that what is best within us emerges, almost inevitably, from what is worst? Like the momentary global solidarity that grew out of 9/11. Is it simply "dialectics", thesis and antithesis colliding and wrestling and producing a new synthesis? Somehow the notion of dialectics does not fully capture the full drama of the moment we are all now caught up within. What is the nature of this transformation we are now undergoing? That is the question this blog will explore. . .
